A question we often hear is: “Can I be put under anesthesia without getting a needle?” The short answer is: yes, you can.

Fear of needles is more than just feeling a little nervous. It can show itself through sweating, a racing heartbeat, dizziness, or even fainting. Just seeing a needle can be enough to cause panic. In a dentist’s chair—where you already feel vulnerable—this often feels even more overwhelming.
That’s why it’s good to know that dental treatment without needles is also possible.
Yes, it is.
Normally, anesthesia is given through an IV injection. But if you are afraid of needles, we use a different method. Instead of starting with an IV, the anesthesia begins with a mask to breathe in Sevoflurane, a scentless sleeping agent you inhale calmly. This gently puts you to sleep in a relaxed way. Then, once you are fully under anesthesia, the IV is inserted. You won’t feel a thing.
We do not use laughing gas, but full medical anesthesia carried out by an experienced anesthesia team.
Everything is done under the professional supervision of an anesthesiologist, in a fully equipped setting. You are in safe hands, and we take the time beforehand to explain everything so you can undergo the treatment with confidence.

Inhalation anesthesia is a good solution for those with needle fear. However, we sometimes see that people feel a bit uncomfortable afterward, for example with nausea. This happens less often with IV anesthesia, which is why that is our standard method. We always look together with you for the most comfortable and suitable approach.
